Grams are known to be rich in proteins, and this mixed dal is indeed very flavourful


  • Split skinless green gram (dhuli moong dal), soaked for 30 minutes 3 tbsps
  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal), soaked for 30 minutes 3 tbsps
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Garlic, minced ½ tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds (methi dana) ½ tsp
  • Green chilli, chopped 1
  • Medium onion, finely chopped 1
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chilli powder ½ tsp
  • Garam masala powder ½ tsp
  • Medium tomato, finely chopped 1
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped 2 tsps


  • Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add garlic, fenugreek seeds and green chilli, mix and saute till fragrant.
  • Add onion, mix and saute for 1 minute. Add salt, red chilli powder and garam masala and saute till light brown.
  • Add tomato and saute till it turns pulpy. Add split green gram, split Bengal gram and 1 cup water, mix well, cover and cook till both the grams are done. Add water as needed to get the required consistency.
  • Add coriander leaves, mix well, transfer into a serving bowl and serve immediately.
