Diabetic diet for a healthier and a long life.

Diabetes is a serious disorder which affects millions of people worldwide. The fact that this disease is hereditary and can be passed onto generations makes it all the more hazardous and dangerous. Not many people know how this condition’s pathophysiology works.
Diabetes generally occurs due to a insufficiency of insulin, a hormone responsible for transporting and synthesizing glucose from blood to human cells. This process is responsible for generation of energy in a human body. The fact that diabetes can be tamed and controlled with a well directed food diet is a comforting thought.
A general diabetic diet contains less carbohydrate / fats and more of fibre / proteins. Soya beans and meat are rich sources of fibre and proteins. These ingredients must be enforced in everyday diet of a diabetes affected person.
Foods such as wheat, rice cakes, pastries and anything prepared from white flour have high levels of carbohydrates. These foods must be restricted or controlled in a diet. Foods containing complex carbohydrates such as potatoes, root crops and legumes must be restricted completely. Increase in fibre intake supplemented by cereals, fruits and veggies must also be controlled, since many vegetables and fruits contain high sugar levels.
A Diabetic person must count the calories of the food that he eats. He should also try and maintain his calorie intake within a normal range. It is also important to keep a check on blood glucose level before and after meals.
Diabetes cannot be cured wholly; however it can be controlled by a strict and disciplined diet. You must not let diabetes control your life; instead, you must control diabetes for a healthy and a long life.
