Store Raisins the Right Way!

Raisins are grapes that have been dried to a point that prevents them from spoiling; creating a product that remains shelf-stable for a period of months. However, storing raisins requires a modest amount of diligence. If they absorb too much moisture from their surroundings, they can become moldy and spoil. More commonly moisture will evaporate from the raisins, leaving them hard and unpleasant to eat. Proper storage is the key to keeping raisins plump and moist.

Always store raisins in an airtight jar and refrigerate. This will let the raisins stay fresh for much longer.

If you aren’t planning to refrigerate your raisins make sure you store them in a cool, dark place. In case you plan on using a container to store them, consider bagging them as well to minimize their exposure to the air.

Buy raisins in small quantities and make sure they are always fresh. Coz the fresher they are, the better their shelf life will be.

If your raisins do dry out, plump them in a small amount of hot or boiling water before using them in your favorite recipes.

And a commonly noticed problem when storing raisins at room temperature is insects. If such is the issue then discard the raisins and buy new ones. Always remember that refrigeration is the best and recommended option in hot and humid environments.
