This is a great snack to serve when hunger pangs trouble your kids in between meals

Ingredients

  • Tortilla chips 200 gms
  • Salsa
  • Medium tomatoes, seeded and finely chopped 5
  • Medium onion, finely chopped 1
  • Garlic, finely chopped 1 tbsp
  • Lemon juice ½ tbsp
  • Green chilli, finely chopped 1
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped 2 tbsps
  • Sugar ½ tsp
  • Kissan tomato ketchup 4 tbsps
  • Salt to taste
  • Processed cheese, grated 4 tbsps

Methods

  • Preheat oven to 180º C.
  • Take tomatoes in a large bowl, add onion, garlic, lemon juice, green chilli, coriander leaves, sugar, tomato ketchup and salt and mix well.
  • Place tortilla chips on an ovenproof plate, spoon salsa over them and sprinkle cheese on top.
  • Keep the plate in the preheated oven and bake for 3 minutes or till the cheese melts.
  • Serve immediately.

  • Sesame (til) oil
  • Carom powder
  • Dill seed powder
  • Rice wash water
  • Camphor

This concoction has a lot of medicinal value

Ingredients

  • Sesame (til) oil ½ cup
  • Carom (ajwain) powder 1 tsp
  • Dill seed powder 1 tsp
  • Rice wash water 1 cup
  • Camphor (karpur) 1 tsp

Methods

  • Mix together carom powder, dil seed powder, sesame oil and rice wash water in a bowl.
  • Pour this mixture into a non-stick pan and heat on medium heat.
  • Once it comes to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for a while. Take the pan off the heat, strain it into another bowl. Add camphor powder and mix well.
  • Cool, store it in sterilized bottle and use it for any kinds of joint pains.
Bitter Gourd (karela) Chips

Bitter Gourd (karela) Chips

An ideal way to make kids eat bitter gourd, a very healthy vegetable which not many kids are willing to have

Ingredients

  • Bitter gourds (karela), cut into thin roundels 4
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder 1 pinch
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Kissan tomato ketchup to serve

Methods

  • Take bitter gourd slices in a bowl, add salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder and mix well.
  • Heat sufficient oil in a kadai, slide in the bitter gourd slices and deep- fry on medium heat till golden in color. Drain on absorbent paper.
  • Transfer them onto a serving platter and serve with tomato ketchup.
Hot Chocolate

  • Milk with cream

Ingredients

  • Dark chocoalte, cubed ¾ cup
  • Milk with cream 3 cups
  • Cinnamon 1 inch
  • Chocolate stick for serving

Methods

  • Take chocolate in a bowl and melt it on a double boiler.
  • Heat milk in a non-stick pan, add cinnamon and bring it to a boil.
  • Remove melted chocolate from heat and place it on the worktop. Strain the boiled milk into melted chocolate bowl and whisk well.
  • Pour into 4 cups and serve hot.
Nutty Dark Chocolate

  • Walnuts
  • Almonds
  • Dark chocolate

Every crunchy bite will be so comforting

Ingredients

  • Wanuts, finely chopped 6 to 8
  • Almonds, finely chopped 8 to 10
  • Dark chocolate, chopped 1 cup

Methods

  • Take dark chocolate in a bowl and melt it on a double boiler.
  • Dry-roast walnuts and almonds in a non-stick pan till golden and crunchy.
  • Remove chocolate from heat and mix till it cools down to room temperature. Add roasted nuts and mix well.
  • Pour the chocolate-nut mixture into a small heart shaped silicon chocolate moulds, tap and scrape out the excess chocolate with a scraper. Keep the moulds in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes or till set.
  • Demould, arrange on a serving plate and serve.
